Shine and Sparkle: A Simple Guide to Cleaning Your Shower

Keeping your shower clean and hygienic is not only essential for maintaining a healthy home, but it also ensures a refreshing and enjoyable bathing experience. With regular maintenance and a few effective cleaning techniques, you can easily achieve a spotless and sparkling shower. In this blog, we will guide you through some simple steps to make your shower shine!

Tip: Daily wipe down of your shower after use will help eliminate the buildup of hard water & soap scum. A thorough cleaning of your shower should be done bi-weekly. If you have glass use a squeegee after each use. To quote Don Aslett "A squeegee in the shower is work a truckload of de-limer."

Step 1: Gather the Necessary Supplies

Before diving into the cleaning process, gather the supplies you'll need.

This includes:

The best tools for the job come in the Ultimate Cleaning Combo. I love the pole attachments that are easy to use and save my back from bending and crouching.

Tip: Start with a clean slate - remove all shampoo bottles, razors, loofas, and anything else cluttering your tub/shower. Save yourself time, don't work around stuff.

Step 2: Pre-treat Stubborn Stains and Soap Scum

Soap scum and hard water stains are common nuisances in showers. Apply a solution to the affected areas and let it dwell for about 5 minutes. Then, use a scrub brush or sponge to gently scrub away the stains. Rinse thoroughly with water.

Step 3: Combat Mold and Mildew

Mold and mildew thrive in damp environments, making your shower a prime target. To eliminate these unwelcome guests, mix equal parts of water and white vinegar in a spray bottle or use a mold killer.  Spray the solution onto the affected areas and let it sit for approximately 10 minutes. Then, scrub the surface with a brush or sponge, and rinse thoroughly.

Tip: Ventilate your bathroom during and after cleaning to prevent future mold growth.

Step 4: Scrub & Scrub

Start at the top & work your way down. Spray your solution and work in with a scrub pad. Let the solution dwell 3-5 min. On tough areas, corners, and grout lines use a scrub brush.

Step 5: Clean Shower Fixtures

Shower fixtures, including faucets, shower heads, and handles, can accumulate grime and mineral deposits over time. Use your shower cleaning solution and spray generously over the fixture, use a hard bristled brush and scrub deep into the corners and crevices. Rinse thoroughly with water after & wipe with a microfiber cloth.

Step 6: Rinse & Wipe Down

Rinse walls, glass, and fixtures with water. Use your scrub pad to remove any excess or dried solution. Wipe down the shower surfaces with a microfiber cloth. Finish by using a squeegee or microfiber cloth to dry the glass doors, leaving them streak-free and crystal clear. Use a glass cleaner to make them really shine!

Tip: Don't forget the drain. Adding a drain opener several times a year will help with build up and clogs. We highly suggest Drain Sticks, just drop them in and let them go to work!

Cleaning your shower doesn't have to be a daunting task. By following these simple steps regularly, you can maintain a clean and inviting shower space. Remember to stay consistent with your cleaning routine, and address any issues promptly to prevent them from becoming more challenging to tackle later on. With a little effort and the right cleaning techniques, your shower will continue to shine and provide you with a delightful and refreshing bathing experience every time.
